The forerunner of ABRI was The Task Force on Architecture and Building Research Institute (TFABRI), initiated in March 1987 under Construction and Planning Agency, Ministry of the Interior. In September 1989, TFABRI was placed directly under the command of the Ministry of the Interior. On 30 October 1995, TFABRI was restructured into its present form as the Architecture and Building Research Institute (ABRI). ABRI focuses on the practical research and development related to policy-making and administrative affairs in public safety in order to promote building safely, improve the quality of living environment, advance construction technology level, and excel at urban development.
