According to the organizational act of ABRI, the institute is in charge of the following tasks in research and development:
1. Building development policy and building codes.
2. Building usage and disaster prevention.
3. Building construction quality and safety.
4. Building structure and structural engineering.
5. Building industry and construction technology.
6. Building environmental control and energy conservation technology.
7. Building facilities and materials.
8. Foreign building management system and building technology.
9. To assist the private sector in the establishment of the inspection and certification
center for building materials and components.
10. Other advanced building technology.
The Contents of main Division

Planning Division
This division is engaged in research and development relating to urban growth, comprehensive community development, building economics, building culture, and building information. Research and development activities of the division are aimed at implementing administrative plans, improving urban development, and enhancing the environment.
Disaster Prevention Division
This division is in charge of research and development related to safety and disaster prevention for buildings and urban environment. Its goal is to assist the government as well as the private sector, via technology, regulations, and systems, as it fortifies the overall safety and disaster prevention ability of our society.
Engineering Technology Division
This division is in charge of the research and development projects related to building structure, anti-seismic capacity, building materials, production technology and building automation. Its goals are to ensure the building structure safety, promote the usage of new technology and material, and achieve the rationalization of building production.
Environmental Control Division
This division manages research in building environmental control, energy conservation technology, and the revision or establishment of related codes. Through the guidance of policy and proper regulations (or codes), and the application of research results to the architecture and construction industry can be significantly enhanced the quality of our living environment.
